About Remy's Traffic Adventure

Remy’s Traffic Adventure is the result of a group project with the goal of creating an educational game around traffic for children aged 8 – 10. Our team consisted of five people. The game was designed with feedback from Vlaamse Stichting Verkeersveiligheid (which is the Flemish Foundation for Traffic), and people who teach our target audience in school.

Most of my time on the project was spent on the following features:

  • Programming of a traffic simulation system which includes
    • Working stoplights for both pedestrians and cars
    • Advanced car AI with awareness and realistic behaviour in more complex scenarios such as intersections with and without stoplights.
    • Dynamic pathfinding to support real-time lane changing.
    • Dynamic car spawning depending on the level difficulty.
    • Support for various road types including one-way traffic, two-way traffic, and several intersection types.
  • Modelling, texturing and unwrapping various models like big parts of the road tiles and various in-game obstacles.
  • Sound design, including sound programming for cars depending on their model, speed and interaction with the player.
  • General bug fixing and performance optimization, which was a challenge since the game had to be playable in the web browser.
